Help Tennessee Families with Rainbow Around the Block
Callie W-L - Friday, June 04, 2010

We first learned about Anna Maria Horner's project to assist families devastated by the flooding in Tennessee while we were attending Spring Quilt Market in Minneapolis. Naturally, we were quick to jump on board and eager to learn more about how CityCraft could participate.

A little info on the mission of the Rainbow Around the Block project from Anna Maria's site:

"Not everyone can be on the front lines of an effort like flood cleanup and rebuilding, but we believe that there is always a way to help. So many families lost their homes, cars, and all their belongings during the floods of May 2010 in Middle Tennessee. As they begin their rebuilding process, we hope to combine the efforts of generous quilters nationwide in order to make as many quilts as possible to distribute to families who are in need of new items for their homes. It is a simple mission, but its one that we hope will be far reaching and one that will give homemade comfort to as many people as possible.

We are accepting unfinished 12.5in x 12.5in quilts blocks (12in x 12in finished) preferably in a monochromatic color scheme (or two main harmonious colors, like red/orange, or blue/green etc.) in any patchwork style that you'd like. Please also keep in mind that just because we are asking for blocks that are relatively singular in color, that we still encourage all shades, including neutrals and murkier tones, i.e. it doesn't have to be just rainbow brights. There is no limit to how many blocks you can send."

CityCraft will volunteer to be a drop-off point for all Rainbow Around the Block quilt blocks in the North Texas area. CityCraft will also honor and encourage the program by giving any customer that drops off a block 10% off their entire purchase at the time of drop-off.

Thank you so much to Anna Maria Horner for organizing and THANK YOU for participating and we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Callie

Free pattern from Anna Maria Horner
Callie W-L - Wednesday, May 05, 2010

One of our favorite designers, Anna Maria Horner, is sweetly sharing a pattern from her new book Handmade Beginnings for free on Amazon.com. We love this book, and we can't wait for you to check it out next time that you're in.

Our apologies for being so quiet on the blogosphere lately. We've been hard at work on a very special surprise and some big announcements...so stay tuned! We've also been hard at work finalizing our June schedule. Our May schedule of sewing classes filled up so quickly, and we have long waiting lists for classes. A little overwhelming, but incredibly refreshing how many people in Dallas are interested in sewing classes! Wow! Hopefully, we'll get it posted quickly. Thank you so much for being patient with us as we welcome hundreds of new customers thanks to our recent brush with fame :)

If you haven't been in to see us in while, get your darling self in here! We've got lots of new goodies to share with you:

- A new organic fabric line from Cloud9 called Beyond the Sea - it's just delicious
- Alexander Henry's spectacular corpse bride-themed Halloween collection "The Ghastlies" which is getting a lot of attention (check out True Up's review from Fall Quilt Market)
- AND Alexander Henry's new Zanzabelle line that answers my dream of a quilt-weight IKAT PRINT!!!
- Restocked favorites from Amy Butler, Michael Miller, and more...

CityCrafter Roxane's colorful modern quilt
Callie W-L - Thursday, January 28, 2010

I'm not going to ruin this moment with too many words. We heart this quilt. Big time. CityCrafter Roxane used several fabrics from CityCraft to complete this quilt for her 20 year-old daughter, and if I wasn't a law-abiding citizen I would nab it when she wasn't looking. Roxane, you've been warned! Thank you for sharing the photo!

Get inspired by Anna Maria's Voiles
Callie W-L - Tuesday, January 05, 2010

If you are a CityCrafter, you know that we are completely obsessed with Anna Maria Horner. Her fabric, her patterns, her books...everything is exquisite. And the woman has 15 kids! (Okay, not really, but she has a lot of children and still manages to put out an incredible collection of goods. It's breathtaking, really...)

Most recently, we have received her entire collection of cotton voiles, deliciously soft fabric that lends itself so well to apparel and home decor projects. To inspire you, we have started to assemble our own Anna Maria Horner Voiles gallery in Flickr. Please enjoy and GET INSPIRED.

New Anna Maria Horner starting to arrive!
Callie W-L - Thursday, December 10, 2009

Jumping up and down! Jumping up and down! Anna Maria Horner's newest collection Little Folks has started arriving at CityCraft. On her blog, Anna Maria describes the collection:

"Little Folks prints and the solids included in each palette are printed on the softest 55" cotton voile, and have a beautiful hand, high thread count, gorgeous drape and sew up in the most buttery-soft way you can imagine. [...] they are on a much smaller scale than typical for me. The scale makes the fabrics so wonderufully ideal for small patchwork, many applications of clothing for little ones and adults and I've just begun the sewing. While the artwork carries forth alot of my musings from Good Folks, I relished in designing intimately and small like this and it was a refreshing change. It just felt sweet and precious, but gutsy and fun too. Not unlike a boisterous baby, I imagine. Small but undeniably there."

Check out the entire Little Folks collection on the Free Spirit website and on her blog.
