Not being a big quilter (YET), I was a little naive to the awesomeness that is fat quarter bundles, charm packs, and jelly rolls. (If it sounds like I'm speaking a different language, I am! These are just fancy terms that refer to pre-cut fabric stacks.) But I quickly fell in love with our new Moda charm packs featuring Sandy Gervais' L'Amour line of Valentine's Day fabric when I realized all of the different ways they can be used to make quick projects.

We patched together a few pieces from the collection to create these darling Quilted Wine Bags. It was a cinch to piece together, quilt with batting, and then sew into a bag, complete with lining.

Our project was inspired by this tutorial from I Got A Notion! blog. We altered the project a bit to fit our 3 square x 3 square patchwork, but the tutorial gives you a great framework to go by.

Here's all we needed to complete this project:

L'Amour charm pack (available at CityCraft)
Solid color lining fabric
Batting
Thread
Grosgrain ribbon

Considering the recent surge in the popularity of sewing and sewing-related crafts, I'm surprised that Martha Stewart Living's February 2010 issue didn't contain more projects that made good use of our trusty sewing machines. The one project that did catch my sewer's eye was this darling Necktie Envelope. A perfect and practical gift for the weary business traveler in your life, or, if slightly altered, a lingerie pouch for your on-the-go girlfriends. Enjoy!
