Modern Quilting: Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley
Callie W-L - Friday, January 15, 2010

Many people try and call CityCraft a quilt shop. People seem to like to categorize things. Put them in nice little boxes. Make it easy to understand.

CityCraft is not a quilt shop. Nor is it a sewing shop. Nor is really just a fabric store. CityCraft is...well...it's a CityCraft store. It's an entity unto itself. And I'm really, really proud of that.

I am also proud to carry products by Denyse Schmidt, a designer that has really broken the mold of "traditional quilting" to breathe new life into this wonderful art form, appealing to a distinctively fresh and modern aesthetic. And that really is what quilting is: a true art form and an expression of creativity. I suppose that is why I get so angry when people try to tell me that there are "right" and "wrong" ways to quilt. BAH!

Denyse's newest line Hope Valley is making me itch with a desire to start seriously quilting - the fabric is absolutely beautiful and has the nicest hand you can imagine. (Don't worry, I don't use the word "hand" often - sounds like a snooty fabric term, but it's just an easier way to say: the way that a fabric feels to the touch, the sensory experience you get from handling a fabric.)

Not only do we have the entire Hope Valley line, but we also have the line available in fat quarter bundles AND we have all of her newest quilt patterns. I promise that you will love it.

Dollar-for-Dollar Haiti Relief Today- A SUCCESS!
Callie W-L - Thursday, January 14, 2010

UPDATE: Thanks to your generosity and spirit of giving, CityCraft was able to donate hundreds of dollars to Doctors Without Borders' Haiti Relief Effort today. ROCK ON, CITYCRAFTERS!!!

After hearing about the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the CityCraft team asked the same question that many of you might be asking: "How can we help?"

Right now, most organizations that can make the most impact on the ground are in need of monetary donations.

To do our part to help those that have been affected by the disaster, CityCraft pledges to match every dollar spent today in the store with a donation to Doctors Without Borders. Donations to its Haiti relief efforts will go toward repairing the obstetrics and trauma hospitals in Haiti that were damaged in the earthquake. They also will go to transporting an additional 70 doctors and medical supplies to the island in an effort to set up makeshift emergency medical response centers.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Get inspired by Anna Maria's Voiles
Callie W-L - Tuesday, January 05, 2010

If you are a CityCrafter, you know that we are completely obsessed with Anna Maria Horner. Her fabric, her patterns, her books...everything is exquisite. And the woman has 15 kids! (Okay, not really, but she has a lot of children and still manages to put out an incredible collection of goods. It's breathtaking, really...)

Most recently, we have received her entire collection of cotton voiles, deliciously soft fabric that lends itself so well to apparel and home decor projects. To inspire you, we have started to assemble our own Anna Maria Horner Voiles gallery in Flickr. Please enjoy and GET INSPIRED.
